- Daegu, a metropolitan city, is in a valley surrounded by mountains. It has the long history and bears the rich cultural heritage of the Silla and Gaya Dynasties. It is the political, economic, and cultural heart of the North Gyoungsang region of the Korean Peninsula.
- Gyeongju City

- Gyeongju, near Daegu, was the capital city of the Silla Dynasty, which dominated the Korean Peninsula between 57 B.C. and 935 A.D. There is so much Silla heritage to be seen that Gyeongju is commonly referred to as the "museum without walls". In 1995, UNESCO recognized the historical and cultural value of the Silla Dynasty, and designated the Sokkuram Grotto and Bulguksa temple, two of the most representative remains of the city, as parts of the world cultural heritage.
- Andong Hahoe Folk Village

- Traditional Korean culture is alive and well in Andong Hahoe Folk Village. The numerous temples, Confucian academies, and houses of the families in the city give testimony to the influence of Buddhism during the Goryeo Dynasty and Confucianism during the Joseon Dynasty. There is the Korean Mask Museum with more than 200 examples of the 19 different kinds of Korean Masks and some 100 masks from 15 different countries. Andong became widely known after a visit by Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom in April, 1999.
